On Frankincense: There is so much controversy with frankincense lately, whether they have Boswellic Acid or not, whether they are pure or adulterated, and on and on. Can you shed some light?
Yes, I have some thoughts on this. First of all, it is very true that there is a great deal of adulteration and misrepresentation occurring among all of the essential oils on the commercial market. Buying a known brand name, no matter what they say or advertise about their oils, is like rolling the dice--and the dice are rigged!
In 2000 I had the great fortune to meet up with a man named Harvey who had worked as a scientist for a very large body care product company. He was given the job of quality control, and had to test every batch of essential oils and chemicals the company purchased. He made it very clear to me that almost nothing that is sold on the market is pure. There is way too much money to be made, the product has passed through way too many hands, and it is way too easy to "fool" even gas chromatography and mass spectrometry testing.
The only way to have even a chance of purchasing something pure, according to Harvey, is to purchase oils directly from the distillers; and to work only with those distillers in whom you have built trust. Any oils that make it onto the international market, are virtually guaranteed to be adulterated.
I believe it is important to find a source for your essential oils that you can trust. Most purchasers can not afford to buy a pound or a kilogram of essential oil at a time directly from a distiller; nor would they want to store it for the 30 years or longer that it would take for a end-user to use up that much oil!
So finding a source who is seeking the same level of quality that you are, is very important. And it is also very important to develop your own ability to perceive quality. In many cases, the nose, knows!
This can be done by comparing as many high quality oils as you can get your hands on, to their commercially available counterparts. If you can buy it in a chain store, it is not a pure high quality essential oil, no matter what you think it is! Smell a true, high quality rose otto, and compare it to one that costs under $100 per 5ml bottle.
Compare the aroma of hand distilled peppermint essential oil to one from a network marketing company. Compare real, pure artisan distilled thyme, oregano, and basil to their health food store counterparts. Your nose will become educated quickly.
To this, I would like to add another viewpoint. I have used kinesiology and dowsing (body dowsing or pendulum dowsing) to evaluate the quality of essential oils for many years. Testing the oils by seeing how they affect a person's body and nervous system, can be one of the best forms of quality control; and also will give you an idea of which of the hundreds of oils available may be the best choice for a certain person.
When we use information that comes directly through the physical body, we nearly eliminate the risk of adverse affects from impure oils; and the risk of encountering resistance to the oils. We also increase the chances of having success with the oils we choose. The body knows what it needs. It is intelligent, as are the plants that the oils came from.
Learning to read this is an important piece of owning a body, especially if you want to take care of that body naturally and avoid taking drugs and having surgeries, and live a vibrant, high frequency life.
When I began working in the field of aromatherapy in 1998, I started out selecting oils for clients based on the scientific and anecdotal information available for their symptoms. I had good results with all kinds of treatments, and over the next few years, our business grew rapidly because of the success rate.
By 2000, I was no longer selecting my oils in that way. Instead, I began to rely on kinesiology and/or dowsing to select oils for clients. Once I made the switch, my success rate increased dramatically, going from "good" to "great". I attribute this success to the fact that I was now working in co-creation with the plant spirits, and the client's body. There is a dramatic difference with this, in my experience.

I wanted to tell you that I am getting some info through the sacred heartwood of the juniper these days. Remember you sent that to me a while back as a gift? I am finding juniper pieces in odd places as if placed there just for me! The heartwood is making me aware of my own heart and the central zone or core of myself that I am trying to find some peace within once again, now that our health ordeal has let up a bit . I have the piece of wood on my night stand and I have been inclined to use many more wood/tree oils, as I mentioned. I am enjoying them on myself as well. What is the story behind this piece of sacred juniper?
Most of the Juniper trees in our area grow at a slightly lower elevation, where water is a less available. The more abundant water level at the higher elevation, produces Juniper trees with a much larger trunk diameter than usual. And inside these large trees, at the very central core of their trunks, is a beautiful purple heartwood that carries a divine aroma of balsam and cedar.
The trees are never cut down. People are only allowed to harvest them on the Kaibab, when they are given freely; when they die and fall down to the ground. In 2013, we were blessed with the gift of a tree of great size, and were able to harvest this wonderful heartwood, which is used as a smudge and for burning in ceremonies.
The Kaibab is one of the most sacred mountains on Mother Earth. It is the gateway to the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, Mother Earth's spiritual center, galactic center, and the physical home of female energy for our planet. Indigenous peoples from around the world know of the sacredness of this area.
And many ancient cultures have left their mark in these canyons, where petroglyphs and pictographs abound, and Anasazi dwellings still stand under stone outcrops. The magic of this country and its ancient secrets are carried in the sacred heartwood.
I feel it has a special message for us, for this time; reminding us Humans to remember our connection to the rest of the Planetary community. Reminding us to trust the ancient ways of knowing that are anchored deep in our DNA; and to surrender to the process of change and integration that is enabling us Humans to step forward into our new role as Conscious Care-takers of Mother Earth.
Thank you for sharing your experience with this gift.
Kathryn
